Psalms for Las Chingonas
Riso Print Zine, edition of 50
Psalms For
Las Chingonas
Letter Half, 12 pages Red and black
A mixtape, in the form of a Zine. An Altar to a few of the many female musicians whose songs became personal psalms for me during times of celebration, self-discovery, and survival. From childhood through adulthood their words and music lit a path toward liberation.
These songs taught me how to divest my mind and spirit from the patriarchy of Catholicism, to stop fearing my body, and to connect with the true nature of my creator. Singing and dancing along to these jams gave me space to be embodied, and practiced in the act of self-empowerment. I learned to use my voice to speak up and express my (many) opinions, desires, needs, and boundaries. These songs wired pathways of wit, joy, and revolution through my brain. I found words to describe personal injustices in a way that made me feel “not crazy,” so I could begin healing. Through all the tears, and joy these women have been here for me just as much as my home girls.
